This isn’t the first time Manitoba, Canada has had to deal with extreme flooding. In 1997 “the flood of the century” hit, also as recently as 2009 they also experienced severe floods. For the most current flood which the citizens of Manitoba are bracing for, is expected to be due to large amounts of rain and other precipitation, as well as snowmelt. The province is planning a $22 million dollar project to combat the flood. Near Winnipeg they plan to bring in over 200,000 sandbags to fight the flooding. The soil in the area is made of mostly clay, which makes it much harder for water to drain. The best case scenario for the spring floods, is that it is comparable to the floods in 2009 which displaced thousands.
