Posterizing Pompeii

The Last Day of PompeiiIn 19 hours, a city completely disappeared. Mount Vesuvius erupted so violently the city of Pompeii was completely demolished, killing thousands engulfing the city in 9 feet of ash and mud. This volcano eruption is known as one of the worst in history. The catastrophic event was not only recorded by historians, but artists as well. Being an art major, i found the pieces of art created to depict scenes of the event were very intriguing. “The Last Day of Pompeii” was a piece created Karl Briullov depicting the citizens ducking for cover as the sky opens up and erupts lava and ash onto the city. Art pieces like this are great to show significant historical events in new light.
