What does the future hold?

The 2011 hurricane activity is estimated to be about 40% above normal. The long-range forecast predicts that we will have a rather active season with 4 forceful hurricanes, 8.4 hurricanes and 15.6 named tropical storms.  It is also estimated that 2.1 hurricanes and 4.9 tropical storms will take place alone the United States coastline. This forecast is similar to 2010, which was a rather accurate prediction for the storms that occurred.  Obviously as we have learned in class it is impossible to predict the exact time these tragic occurrences will happen, however it is nice to have some insight on the subject especially those who live in at risk areas.  By being informed of what the year may have in store people can start mitigating for the storms and try to create a better chance of the least amount of damage as possible.

2011 Hurricane Names: Arlene, Bret, Cindy, Don, Emily, Franklin, Gert, Harvey, Irene, Jose, Katia, Lee, Maria, Nate, Ophelia, Philippe, Rina, Sean, Tammy, Vince, Whitney
