Many people across Australia were facing the destructive aftermath of Cyclone Yasi on February 3rd 2011. The streets were covered in trees and many power lines were down. The storm left 180,000 homes with out electricity. The cyclone was classified as a Category 5 storm when it hit the shore and continued to decrease to a Category 2 storm. Mission Beach, Tully and Innisfail were the cities most severely impacted by the cyclone. The winds got up to 190 miles per hour. The damage came just after one of the worst floods since 1974, hit in Brisbane. The storm wasn’t completely a surprise, many residents knew and boarded up their homes and traveled to evacuation centers in order to prepare.
