Earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand

Earthquakes kill people every year and have been doing so for quite some time. There was a nasty earthquake hit down in New Zealand on February 22, 2011. The earthquake struck Christchurch causing 98 deaths and 226 missing persons so far (Feb. 24, 2011). Unfortunately, casualties are increasing now. The earthquake had a magnitude of 6.3 and was the second largest earthquake in the last five months. The earthquake caused a great deal of destruction in the city of Christchurch. Building had completely fallen, vehicles were destroyed, and many helpless people happened to get trapped in all the confusion under various materials. Thousands of earthquakes that have very small magnitude occur around this area each year even if they cause no damage. Scientists believe that this trend will continue in the future. Earthquake is a natural disaster and there is nothing human can do to truly stop them. However, we can as people take precautions to upcoming earthquakes!
