An Aftershock to Leave New Zealand In Shock

In Christchurch, New Zealand, a 6.3-magnitude earthquake hit. People were left trapped or crushed under the rubble. A minimum of a dozen buildings had collapsed or were severely damaged from the quake. Thousands of people had to move from the city to temporary shelters held in schools and community halls. The earthquake was followed by two aftershocks that were both above 5.0-magnitude.

The death toll from the quake has risen to 147. This figure has been anticipated to rise within the next few weeks. Since the earthquakes struck, seventy people have been rescued. An authority was quoted explaining that there is a list of over 200 missing people, but they think most of them have been confirmed dead.

This earthquake was an aftershock from the earthquake that hit New Zealand in September 2010. I can only hope the aftershocks from this earthquake are done [rvd: there is little chance for that, as this forecast illustrates] and New Zealand can live in peace.
